LightViper™ Scores Again For Fox Broadcasting’s BCS College Championship Football Game

Annapolis Junction, MD — FiberPlex, Inc., the leading professional audio fiber optic supplier to the broadcast sound production industry, has announced that their LightViper™ digital audio transport system was recently deployed for the live Fox Television TV broadcast at the recent BCS College Football Championship played January 7 in the New Orleans Superdome. In the Holiday Season’s classic Championship game, LSU’s Tigers triumphed over Ohio State’s Buckeyes, 38-24, in the 10th Anniversary of the annually televised BCS championship game. The “plug n’ play” LightViper fiber optic audio systems were deployed by CP Communications, Inc, an Elmsford, NY-based production communications equipment and services rental firm that provides video, audio and fiber communications systems to the broadcast, theatrical, live event, film, corporate and other entertainment industries.

Kurt Heitmann, CP Communication’s VP of Marketing, commented on his firm’s use of the LightViper:

“The system transported numerous RF as well as hard-wired mics to our sub-mix trailer parked underneath the Louisiana Superdome. The audio run from the game’s sidelines to our mixing truck was about 1,500 feet, a pretty long run. From there, we sent a conventional AES audio feed a much shorter distance over copper to the Fox-TV production vehicles for all their on-air mixes. The LightViper was used to transport all the on-field audio for the pre, post as well as in-game music which featured the LSU and Ohio State marching bands. The first time CP Communications used the LIghtViper was last summer at the College World Series in an ESPN announce booth. The client absolutely loved the way it performed so we decided to use it again in a much more mission-critical situation.

Heitmann added:

“The system deployed very quickly and the sound quality was excellent. We were all very impressed with how easy it was to set-up and use, once again.”

Editor’s Technical Notes:

Fiberplex manufactures the LightViper fiber optic audio cable transport systems. The LightViper systems offer total signal path isolation between both stage and mixer as well as between the mixer and power amplification; the cable is totally immune to ground loops, RFI, EMI and electromechanical noise, and runs of up to 1 1/4 miles (6,600 feet) can be easily accomplished without signal loss or degradation. FiberPlex includes a limited lifetime warranty with all of its LightViper system components.
